beyond it all

Some trouble doesn't resolve.

Some loss doesn't recover.

they haven’t read the same book.

This is one of the hardest conversations. It deserves to be held honestly.

suffering is not a glitch in the human experience. It is part of it.

chronic illness. unresolvable grief. the death of someone who should not have died yet. the things that happened that cannot be undone.

the Bible does not pretend these away. it walks into them.

the same way it’s clear from the beginning that it was not part of God’s design.

it came as a result of human sin. willful disobedience. introducing a consequence that was never his intention.

the very thing that took away our peace with God.

Some pain doesn't lift.

Some questions don't have answers this side of everything.

And if someone tells you otherwise —
that faith means the pain goes away,
that peace means you stop feeling it,

yet even through that, there’s a peace that is above and through it all.

yet even through that, there’s a peace that is above and through it all.

what are you carrying?

suffering — pain that is chronic, unresolved, or without explanation

death — facing it, fearing it, or losing someone to it

the questions underneath everything — what this life means, what comes after, whether any of it matters

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

— Philippians 4:7

it is a peace that exists at a register above the level where suffering operates.

transcends all understanding. that phrase is doing real work.

this is not a peace that makes sense of suffering.

it is not a peace that explains it, resolves it, or asks you to be okay with it.

Transcends

Transcends

not bypassing the pain. not floating above it untouched. but holding it — from somewhere higher, by someone who has himself been inside the worst of it.

not bypassing the pain. not floating above it untouched. but holding it — from somewhere higher, by someone who has himself been inside the worst of it.

he does not say the trouble ends. he says he has overcome it. past tense. already done.

which means the peace available to you in the middle of the unresolvable is not a hope for the future.

it is a reality that already exists, waiting to be stepped into.

and peace is not just a feeling.

Jesus is called Prince of Peace.

and the peace he gives is not like the peace the world thinks it should be.

it’s a supernatural peace, beyond what we can understand.

a peace that comes from complete wholeness, everything the way he intends.

the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

— Isaiah 53:5
