for tomorrow

a prayer for everyone carrying something into tomorrow.

peace for tomorrow — by vssls

there’s a peace that is above and through it all.

why would i worry?

THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG

joel was driving to a college graduation dinner with one of his friends — one of those nights that's meant to feel celebratory but somehow surfaces everything the things that haven't been dealt with yet.

the conversation went to uni stress, uncertain future, and the gap between where you thought you'd be and where you actually are.

somewhere on that drive, the image came up of a man stepping out of a boat into a storm. not because it was safe. because someone on the water called his name and he went simply because of that.

by the next morning, it had become a song.

not a concept. not a trend. a conversation between two people about a weight that is real — and a prayer for everyone carrying a version of the same weight today.

It started with an afternoon between friends.

Joel, Luke, and their mate Jordan grabbed lunch one Sunday afternoon and ended up at a park in the Adelaide Hills. They talked for hours — about life, about God, about wanting to know Him more in the ordinary, not just the spectacular. and also not just on sunday, but in every simple thing in life.

By evening they'd moved to Luke's lounge room, and Joel turned on a voice memo. He asked Jordan to sum up everything they'd been talking about all afternoon.

And out came a line that would become the heart of the song:

when my thoughts escalate,
when anxieties rage

— from one of the writers

“i've sat with worry that had every single reason to stay. the kind that arrives at 4am and has solid arguments. the kind that follows you into the day and makes itself at home.

Jesus doesn't offer peace in place of hard things. he offers it as something else entirely.

‘my peace i give to you.’ not as the world gives. the world's version has conditions. it needs the situation to change first — the answer to arrive, the tension to resolve, the thing you're afraid of to go away.

His doesn't.

that's what this song is about. not pretending tomorrow is safe. not performing certainty i don't have. just a slow, stubborn trust that the one who holds tomorrow is the same one who has held every day before it.

i wrote this because i needed it. i still need it.

maybe you do too."

there’s a kind of peace that doesn’t make sense in the room you’re standing in.
— Luke

they finished the chorus that night. Jordan asked for one line to be included:

I felt these songs spoke to personal battles I am facing — reminding me to find peace and not let worry take control of my mind.
I have been encouraged to pause and appreciate faithfulness in where I am now, and not be anxious about next steps.
I really felt peace. Loved being able to sit with each line.

what people said

the peace this song points to

there is a kind of peace the world offers.

it is conditional. it needs circumstances to cooperate — the result to come through, the relationship to be repaired, the thing you're afraid of to resolve itself.

and then there is a different kind.

Jesus described it this way:

"in this world you will have trouble. but take heart — i have overcome the world."

— John 16:33

he doesn't promise an easier tomorrow. he promises something that exists above and through whatever tomorrow brings — a peace that doesn't wait for things to make sense before it arrives.

the word for peace in the original language of the Bible is shalom. it doesn't mean the absence of trouble. it means wholeness. completeness. nothing missing, nothing broken.

it is not a feeling you manufacture. it is a state of being that comes from somewhere outside yourself.

"the peace of god, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds."

— Philippians 4:7

that word guard was chosen deliberately — it's the language of a garrison standing post. the peace being described doesn't just visit when things are calm. it stands watch.

[verse 1]

why would i worry?
when you said i can bring
all my cares through my prayers

why would i worry?
above all you've been raised
it's your name i'll embrace

[pre-chorus 1]

all my desires' safe in your hands
i know, all i surrender you'll take care

[chorus 1]

so i bring my requests
there's no reason to stress
won't rely on my own strength
(but) trust in your goodness

when my thoughts escalate
when anxieties rage
tell my heart to remember
your truth's my foundation

[post-chorus]
your peace stands guard over all
i'll rest know you're in control
i give to you my tomorrow
Lord, give me peace for tomorrow

[verse 2]

Lord, i'm so grateful
you've come through without fail
and forever you will

Lord, i'm so grateful
i can trust all you say
help me humbly obey

[pre-chorus 2]
where you call i want to follow
i know, there's more in store for tomorrow

[chorus 2]

so i step out in faith
keep my gaze on your grace
won't rely on my own strength
(but) trust in your goodness

i won't waver in faith
through the winds through the waves
tell my heart to remember
your peace reigns superior

[post-chorus]

your peace stands guard over all
i'll rest know you're in control
i give to you my tomorrow
Lord, give me peace for tomorrow

[bridge]

i'll set my heart on your word
won't stray in my meditation
i'll fix my eyes on your work
i know you'll bring to completion

[bridge]

i'll set my heart on your word
won't stray in my meditation
i'll fix my eyes on your work
i know you'll bring to completion[post-chorus]

[post-chorus]

your peace stands guard over all
i'll rest know you're in control
i give to you my tomorrow
Lord, give me peace for tomorrow

[tag/outro]

i give to you my tomorrow
in you i've peace for tomorrow

the lyrics

VERSE

Help me grow close to you
Help me be more like you
All my life, Lord, I want to know you

Help me give all to you
Help me to trust in you
All my cares, Lord, I leave here with you
All my days, Lord, I'll live them for you

CHORUS 1

Help me to see in the simple things
Be quick to respond when I hear you speak
Each space where I live, I invite you in
Like a friend, would you speak to me

BRIDGE
I'll stay here, wait till you speak
I'll stay here, your love's all I need
I'll stay here, would you dwell in me
I'll stay here, make my joy complete

CHORUS 2

Like a friend, you are here with me
I'll wait on your whisper, I'll let you in
Your word is my treasure, I'll hide it deep
In awe that you'd choose to confide in me

What if 7 days changed the way you think about tomorrow?

EVERY LINE OF THIS SONG IS ROOTED IN the bible

we've put together some short devotional series that unpacks the peace Jesus offers, the truths behind peace for tomorrow — a short reflection delivered straight to your inbox — written for anyone, whether or not you've ever read the Bible before. designed to be read quietly, in your own time, with one question to sit with.

We’d love to pray for you and your tomorrow

if that line caught something in you — a worry you've been carrying, something you can't resolve, a tomorrow that feels too heavy to hold or too uncertain to feel peace over — you can bring your requests and your stresses to God, and we'd be honoured to stand with you in it. we read and pray over every prayer request here.

the peace in this song
has a name.

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

— JOHN 14:27

he said it to people whose world was about to fall apart.

he says it now — to you, wherever you're reading this, whatever tomorrow is holding.

you don't need the right words.

you don't need to have it figured out.

you just need to be honest.

if something in this song has stirred something in you —
even something you can't name yet — that's worth following.

not a technique or a mindset. a Person.

Jesus said:

there’s more in store for tomorrow.

what's God doing in your life?

It doesn't have to be a big thing. A moment in worship. A lyric that hit different. Something that shifted in your prayer time. We'd love to hear it — and we pray over every one.
